My thoughts on the whole music scene...

I often wonder, where did the music go? The bands of the past...now there were some great bands.  As years have gone by since the 60's, 70's,80's and 90's, we have had some pretty good bands, that we will always remember and love.  These bands loved music, they loved what they were doing.  Back then, it was all about the music.  These days, on the other hand, bands and solo artists seem to be getting a little too commerical.  I don't think I will go as far to say that they selling out, but it is pretty close.  When I turn on the tube, all i see is half naked individuals dancing and doing a cover of a song...from a band that they cannot possibily compare to.  The other half of the music industry sounds like the next person.  No one has their own unique sound anymore.  They apparently think that, they cannot sell an album or get airtime with their own sound, so they copy someone else's. Which, they could be right, what talent can they have, if they can't do it on their own.  If you think about it, and I mean "really" how many good bands can you think of right now, that are actually being played on the air or doesn't sound like anyone else?  Really, there are good bands out there, but they are not being heard.  At least, not that much.  Often times, they get a shot and eventually sell out to the media.  What are they really trying to sell us?  Clothes, attitudes, sex, looks, ????  I just don't get it.  To make matters worse, there are reality shows that are trying to find the next big thing in the music industry.  They are looking for a certain look, attitude, lifestyle, just whatever they think will make money.  Who out there, writes their own songs anymore? What do the songs really mean?  Music anymore isn't as deep as it used to be. I want music that moves me.  I want to feel the music, feel it running through my soul.  There aren't many these days that are, and it kills me.  You don't see me running out and buying a so-called boy band's cd.  What is a boy band?  A group of good loooking guys, wearing the same outfit?  Yeh, that is what they basically come down to, not to mention they have a cute little dance routine for an added bonus.  Who wants to see this?  If it came down to choosing a song that is on top of the charts or a song no one has even heard of, that actually stands for something, I would pick the song no one has heard of.  I refuse to devote any time or money into something that want be around in the next year or so.  I would like to think that I have a pretty good ear, in knowing what sounds good and what doesn't.  Just because you haven't heard of a band, doesn't mean they aren't good, or you are not willing to give them a chance.  I can only see this trend getting worse by the years.  It is a fast growing trend and that is what worries me.  The music industry has gotten so bad that they are handing out music contracts to people that can't even sing.  Sure...go ahead and call it a comedy album...make some money.  What is the harm?  Come on people, listen up, it is only going to get worse.  PLain and simple, music isn't what it used to be.  There too many labels (boy bands, pop stars, sex symbols, etc) floating around. So I ask, where has the real music gone?  I answer myself with another question...perhaps on vacation?  Something needs to happen soon.
